The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous institution, is the largest open schooling system in the world. The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was formerly known as National Open School (NOS). It was established in November, 1989. Apart from Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level, NIOS also provides a number of Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses.

The SSC course provided by NIOS is designed for those who have passed the Xth standard or equivalent examination from a recognised Board and would like to continue their education towards a Senior Secondary Certification, equivalent to XII standard.

NIOS Class XII Examination 2016

NIOS holds its SSC exam twice a year as its primary examination, once in April and once in October.

In the April 2013 examinations, close to two lakh students appeared for the SSC exam.

NIOS will release the timetable for SSC, April 2016 exams in the months prior to the exams to allow the students ample time to prepare.
